MG Motor India has introduced the Hector Tomahawk in two electrified versions - an all-electric EV and a plug-in hybrid PHEV. Prices start at ₹19.50 lakh for the Hector Tomahawk EV and ₹25.70 lakh for the Hector Tomahawk PHEV.
Both versions come with a long list of technology and safety features, but there are several differences in their design, seating configuration, boot space, powertrain and charging capabilities. Here’s a detailed look at what sets the MG Hector Tomahawk EV and PHEV apart.
1. How Are the Hector Tomahawk EV and PHEV Different on the Outside?
Different grilles, bumpers and alloy wheel designs
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV and PHEV share the same overall design, but their front-end styling helps distinguish the two versions.
The EV gets a closed-off gloss-black grille, while the PHEV features a more conventional functional grille with chrome detailing. The PHEV also gets black elements beneath the headlights and a different front bumper design, including a silver bull-bar-style insert in the centre.
Both versions feature the same headlights and illuminated MG logo.
The differences are more subtle along the sides. Both models get 18-inch alloy wheels, although the designs vary. The range-topping PHEV also gets red brake calipers.
The dual-tone colour options feature different roof colours. The EV gets a black roof, while the PHEV is offered with a white roof. The rear design remains largely identical between the two versions.
2. What Are the Interior Differences?
The cabin layout and features are largely identical
The interiors of the Hector Tomahawk EV and PHEV are almost identical, with differences mainly limited to the cabin colour scheme and luggage-cover availability.
The EV gets a beige-and-black cabin, while the PHEV uses a brown-and-black theme. The five-seat EV variants also feature a rolling luggage cover.
Apart from these changes, both versions offer the same feature package, including:

3. How Much Boot Space Does the Hector Tomahawk Offer?
The EV offers up to 610 litres, while the PHEV gets 192 litres
The Hector Tomahawk EV is available in both five-seat and seven-seat configurations, giving buyers greater flexibility.
The five-seat EV offers 610 litres of boot space with all seats in place. Folding the rear seats increases the capacity to 1,053 litres.
The seven-seat EV provides 192 litres with all three rows in use. Folding the third row increases the available luggage space to 528 litres.
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV is available exclusively as a seven-seater. It offers 192 litres of boot space with all seats occupied and 528 litres with the third row folded.
Neither version gets a front boot, or frunk, despite the EV using a dedicated electric powertrain.
4. What Are the Powertrain Specifications?
PHEV combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 20.5kWh battery
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV combines a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 20.5kWh battery pack.
The combined system produces 198hp and 230Nm, while MG claims an electric-only range of more than 115km. The front-wheel-drive SUV also has a claimed combined range of over 1,100km.
The Hector Tomahawk EV, meanwhile, uses a much larger 69.2kWh battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor.
The motor develops 204hp and 310Nm, while the EV has a claimed range of 517km.
Therefore, buyers looking for zero-emission driving and a longer electric range will find the EV more suitable, while the PHEV offers the flexibility of switching between electric and petrol power.
5. Can the Hector Tomahawk PHEV Be Fast-Charged?
Yes, it supports 25kW DC fast charging
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV can be charged using a public DC fast charger, with support for 25kW DC charging.
MG claims that the battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in around 35 minutes using a compatible DC charger.
The PHEV is also supplied with a 3.3kW home charger, which can take around 7.5 hours to charge the battery from 10% to 100%.
This gives PHEV buyers the option of charging at home for regular electric-only driving while retaining the petrol engine for longer journeys.
6. Is the Hector Tomahawk More Affordable With BaaS?
Battery subscription lowers the upfront purchase price
MG also offers a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option for both the Hector Tomahawk EV and PHEV.
Under the scheme, the upfront price of the EV can be reduced by up to ₹6.01 lakh, while the PHEV's upfront cost can fall by ₹3.91 lakh.
However, customers opting for BaaS have to pay a monthly battery rental based on the distance driven.

- Hector Tomahawk PHEV: ₹3.20 per km
Based on these rates, the upfront savings are effectively offset after approximately 1,22,653km for the EV and 1,22,187km for the PHEV.
For buyers who expect to cover less than around 1.22 lakh km during the ownership period, BaaS can offer a lower initial financial burden. Those planning to keep the vehicle for longer or drive significantly more may find the battery-included option more economical over time.
BaaS also means the battery remains outside the buyer's ownership. As a result, the overall running cost will depend on the terms of the subscription and the applicable per-kilometre rate.

The Hector Tomahawk EV is the more suitable choice for buyers who want a fully electric SUV, a larger battery and up to 517km of claimed range. Its five-seat version also offers substantially more boot space.
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV, on the other hand, offers greater flexibility for long-distance travel thanks to its petrol engine and claimed combined range of more than 1,100km. It can also be driven in electric mode for shorter daily journeys.
With largely identical interiors, features and safety equipment, the biggest differences between the two come down to powertrain, range, seating options, boot capacity, exterior styling and ownership costs.
